I would like to see most of those I have not seen, though there are exceptions. There are about a dozen movies where I was not sure if I had seen them or not and did not mark them - mostly vaguely remembered movies from when I was under 10 years old.

A number of the movies you have marked that I don't, fall into that vague "Maybe I saw this when I was little" category.

The biggest surprise for me is that you haven't seen "The Sound of Music". That one is such a standard on TV at Thanksgiving, that I've seen it half-a-dozen times without really intending to (though only once as an adult).

You've seen a lot more of them than I have. There are a lot on the list that I want to see, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe now that football season is over...

Re: "The Sound of Music", you have to remember that we didn't have a television almost the entire time in C. That only left two years for me to catch "The Sound of Music" on the little black & white television we had in R.

For those interested in why I've seen so many old films: there was a regular "old black & white film series" in R. in a movie theater that our Mom used to love to go to, and would take me to as well. That plus Summer visits to my grandparents (Mother's side).

See, my first thought was, "She posted a list of the 100 top movies and which she has watched....she has WAY too much time." But then, I actually stopped for several seconds and started scanning the titles to try and find one I HAD NOT seen (much less own). I'm not sure about number 28 and I am "pretty sure" I haven't seen 37 and MABYE 61. So I took a mental step back and thought, "Okay, now YOU (Elizabeth) obviously have had too much time in your life."

But then, I used to play a game in the multiplex of "name that film, that director, that lead...etc and I was always in the top three of about 200 people, so the top three of us: Head projectionist, Film geek who was in charge of posters and me would play even more obscure film games - yeah, now I'm sounding even more geek than human so I will go slink away.

I do have to note how many of this top 100 list either have clear gay erotic scenes in them (Lawrence of Arabia? Ben Hur?) or are gay classics themselves (Wizard of Oz, Sunset Blvd., Some like it Hot). Lesbian classics have yet to crack the list, unless I missed Aliens.

Heh. I'm finding it interesting that the movies you're listing as having "clear gay erotic scenes" are, for the most part, on the list of movies I haven't seen, but definitely wish to.

The lack of lesbian erotic intent is likely an artifact of conjunctions. If men are important, and women are not, but love is important and homosexual love is verboten, then gay erotica is both important and fraught with tension - clear movie fodder, even if it can't be addressed directly. Lesbian erotica on the other hand would be fraught, but not important - so why would anybody want to make it? (Not commenting on what people would actually want, but on what their unconscious might be saying while deciding which movies to make.)
