Yeep!

Official confirmation from Sensei. He expects (hear this word with a heavy layer of emphasis) that I will be ready to test for my shodan before my birthday (early April), and that he will test me by that point.

I had had an inkling of this from Sensei D a few weeks ago, but when he realized that Sensei had not said anything to me yet, he shut up abruptly.

Bringing up promotion expectations with Sensei is a big no-no with him, you wait until he brings it up, so I've been twitchy about this - wanting to know more, but not daring to ask. (Sensei wouldn't spring a black belt test on me on short notice, would he?)

Though honestly, I can't say I'm less twitchy know that I know. Just twitchy in a slightly more focused way.

Congratulations! I know you will do well. You are so lucky that you will be tested by your sensei! I wish I could be tested by mine, instead of by a board.

Totally off-topic - are you interested in discussing what you said here, namely:

"Flatly, the bible provides no grounds for saying that raping little girls is always wrong. At the very best interpretation, it allows saying that raping little girls is only good if God orders you to do it. And since God at several points does order various things that are as clearly morally objectionable as raping little girls (slaughtering entire nations comes leaping to mind), you can't really say that God would never tell someone to do such a thing." ?

If not, you'll be walking the same road as your friend possummomma, who is living up to her name by playing dead. If so, I think there are some interesting elements to this point that I'd like to explore.

Peace,
Rhology

Thanks all!

Becky, I know how lucky I am to be able to be tested in my home dojo by my own sensei. I know that at some point my promotions move up the ladder, though I'm not sure when. I think I'd be about six times as nervous if I were going up before a board!

rhology - I'd be entirely willing to discuss this over at your blog. I pretty much don't do either religious or political discussion here. I'll pop by over the next few days and see if there are any appropriate threads.

Sounds good!

Ah, I just got back from Thanksgiving holiday, and I remembered I already wrote the answer. Here you go.

I hope you'll consider that the many prohibitions against rape in the Bible as well as the obvious extension to children and proscriptions of sexual immorality certainly qualify as "grounds for saying that raping little girls is always wrong."

Here's hoping you'll let God's Word penetrate your heart. As gently as I can, after reading some of your online stuff, I hope, pray, and strongly recommend that you start conforming your worldview to Scripture, as opposed to taking that which you like and leaving out that which you don't. You will have to stand before God someday and give an account for the way that you treated His communication to you. Here's hoping you'll have nothing of which to be ashamed on that day.

If you disagree, I'd be happy to engage you on that post - just leave a comment.

Peace,
Rhology
